Koffing (free pattern)

Yet another Pokémon from the classic series that is easily turned into a crocheted form is Koffing, the purple sphere that can excrete poison fumes and evolve into Weezing. The only real challenge here was to come up with believable tubes, as Koffing's body can be made using a standard pattern for a sphere.

The tubes are a little big and I think there ought to have been more, but it's an amigurumi and it's the cuteness that matters. Again, my laziness and fear of mucking things up by embroidering badly have meant that all the other details are glued on felt.

Koffing was made from my staple cotton amigurumu yarn SMC Catania in dark purple (113) with felt details in white, black, red and light brown. To make sure that the stitchtes are tight and don't show any fiberfill stuffing, I've used a 2.00mm hook.

Poison gas tubes (make 10):

In purple, start a magic ring.
R1: sc 6 in the ring (6)
R2: 2sc in every stitch (12)
R3: in front loops only, sc in every stitch (12)
R4-5: sc in every stitch (12)
R6: 2sc in every 4th stitch (15)
R7: in back loops only, sc in every stitch (15)
R8-10: sc in every stitch (15)

Now what you have is some sort of open-ended purple circus peanut, which needs to be shaped into a tube. Simply fold to open-ended top inside out so that the edge lines up with round 2. Fasten off with a slip stitch, leaving a long enough tail for sewing later. Make 10.

Once you’ve made 10 tubes, assemble Koffing as follows:

First create a circle of tubes dividing the body in a front and back half. Place one tube on top of round 1 and another on round 36. In between these two, attach a tube on either side of the body between rouds 10 and 14, and two between rounds 21 and 25. Finally, sew two tubes on both the front and back, all between rounds 15 and 20, around 20 stitches apart. Cut out some felt details for the eyes, mouth and poison symbol.
