Turtles

 

 

My all-time favourite animal in the whole world is the turtle/tortoise. They are incredibly designed (little tanks on legs) and are adorable in all shapes and sizes (even the really big scary ones). My house is stuffed with turtle plushies and I like to crochet them too.

This yellow turtle, named Ollie comes from a pattern by Christel Krukkert, a very talented Dutch amigurumi designer who has published several animal-themed pattern books. Looking at him now, I can see that my stitches were really loose, the sewing seams are irregular and the eyes are attached incorrectly. He's still adorable though, and really shows how far I have come as a crocheter.

This second attempt already looks better, although here I seem to have had difficulties in weaving in the tails of my work. Together yellow and green Ollie make for a cute duo. Who knows, perhaps one day I'll make a whole rainbow's worth of of turtles <3

Because I used a reasonably thin yarn for these (SMC Catania), they fit perfectly in your hand. Ideal for warming your hands on the sofa!
