Diglett (free pattern)

Diglett was my favourite Pokémon as a kid, although Ditto was a close second. It's the simplicity of its tubular body and the cute little eyes I think that makes this a perfect creature. These characteristics also make it a very good candidate for the amigurumi treatment.

There are many adorable crocheted Diglett's on the internet, such as this incredible Ravelry pattern and this pattern by Yvonne of Originals Lab. What I specifically wanted to achieve for my rendition of this mole Pokémon was that it really looked as if it was coming out of the soil. I also like to avoid sewing and embroidering as much as possible, so the eyes are made of felt and the entire Diglett is knitted as one (apart from the nose).

Diglett was made from SMC Catania cotton yarn with a 2.00mm hook in the colours dark brown (157), pink (114) and light brown (179). For the stuffing I would recommend putting some plastic beads in the bottom and filling the rest with fiberfill. The eyes in this one are made of scraps of black felt, but they may also be embroidered with black embroidery thread.

Body:

In dark brown, start a magic ring.
Round 1: sc 6 in the ring (6)
Round 2: 2sc in every stitch (12)
Round 3: 2sc in every 2nd stitch (18)
Round 4: 2sc in every 3rd stitch (24)
Round 5: 2sc in every 4th stitch (30)
Round 6: 2sc in every 5th stitch (36)
Round 7-18: sc in every stitch (36)
Round 19: (sc 2; sc 2 in back loops only; sc 2) x6 (36)
Round 20: (sc 1; sc 1 in back loops only; sc 2; sc 1 in back loops only; sc 1) x6 (36)
Round 21: (sc 1; sc 4 in back loops only; sc 1) x6 (36)
Round 22: sc 36 in back loops only (36)
Round 23: (30)
Round 24: (24)
Round 25: (18)

Stuff the top of the body.

Round 26: (12)
Round 27: (6)
Fasten off with a slip stitch. Fill up the rest of the bottom with plastic beads to way it down. Loop the tail through the last 6 stitches to close the gap.

Earth:

Round 28: In light brown, join into one of the loops of Round 19. Follow the waves created by the remaining front loops by crocheting 2 tc in each loop of Round 19; 1 dc in each loop of Round 20; 1 hdc in every loop of Round 21 (48)
Round 29: Continue the pattern with (hdc 2; dc; tc; 2tc; tc; dc; hdc) x6 (54). Fasten off with a slip stitch. Weave in the tail.

Nose:

Chain 5 and sc around the chain (8). Fasten off with a slip stitch and sew it onto the body between Rounds 10 and 12.

Finally, cut some eyes out of black felt and glue them to his face!

I've uploaded this same pattern, and several other free patterns of Pokémon amigurumi on my DeviantArt <3
