Small cactus in pot (free pattern)

I absolutely love gardening, but indoors I don't have too many plants. My house isn't too big and big leavy plants tend to take up a lot of space. Cacti and succulents, however, are often more contained, so I have some of those. Another major advantage is that cacti especially are easily crochetable.

This project was made with cotton SMC Catania yarn and a 2.5mm hook.

The cactus itself is crocheted in rows. Start by chaining 17 (17)
R1. Sc in every stitch starting with the 2nd chain from the hook. Chain 1 (16)
R2-30. Sc in every stitch, chain 1 (16).

Fasten off and leave a long tail. Sew the two short sides together and turn the work inside out. Take to other lengths of yarn and weave them in the long sides. Use these to chinch the top and bottom tightly shut, forming a sphere. Stuff the cactus while doing this.

Flower pot:

The flower pot and the light brown earth are crocheted as one piece, but you can crochet them separately and sew them together later. I personally prefer crocheting them together because you can control the amount of stuffing a biet more easily.

Start magic ring in blue.
R1. Sc2 in every stitch (12)
R2. Sc2 in every 2nd stitch (18)
R3. Sc2 in every 3rd  stitch (24)
R4. Sc2 in every 4th  stitch (30)
R5. Sc2 in every 5th  stitch (36)
R6. In back loops only, sc in every stitch (36)
R7-16. Sc in every stitch (36)
R17. In back loops only, sc in every stitch (36)
R18. Sc in every stitch. In the last stitch, switch to light brown (36)
R19. In front loops only, sc in every stitch (36)
R20. Sc2tog every 5th and 6th stitch (30)
R21. Sc in every stitch (30)
R22. Sc2tog every 4th and 5th stitch (24)
R23. Sc2tog every 3rd and 4th stitch (18)
R24. Sc2tog every 2nd and 3rd stitch (12)
R25. Sc2tog every 1st and 2nd stitch (6)

Fasten off and weave in the tail. Sew the cactus on top of the "sand".
